Public Matters was produced in collaboration with workers at the Richmond Cultural Centre in Richmond, BC. The Centre contains a public library, museum, archives, arts centre (community studios), media lab and an art gallery. The workers are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Local 518. The Richmond Art Gallery commissioned the work.
Public Matters looks at the work of public service workers in the cultural sector and focuses on their relation to the public. It also looks at the role of the public in such institutions. The images are based on workshops and discussions with the workers who portray themselves in the image.
